What is the picture supposed to represent....it seems it could go in many directions. Is that Our Lady with the baby Jesus, that the young nun is looking at? Those are the two striking vocations and I am not sure what the painting is trying to say. :)
Thanks for your question! I'm not sure, but I don't think that's Our Lady, because even though those are the colors we would typically see her wearing, it doesn't look like her typical garments. Personally, I see it as a representation of the two types of motherhood, physical and spiritual. I couldn't find any information about what the artist meant it to represent, but the title is "Maternity," so that's my best guess. :)
